Categories in WordPress

Categories for posts or blog posts, help group related posts together, quickly tell readers what a post is about and help find your content on your site and with search engines on the Internet.  Categories are like tags, but are broader than tags.

Example of Categories and Tags
Categories – Photography and Digital Photography are examples of categories.
Tags – iPhone, iPhone photos, iPhone videos would be examples of tags.

Setting up Categories – Can be set up in Dashboard and Post Editor

Categories from Dashboard – Go to the Dashboard, then hover over Posts and select Categories.  You will see a list of your existing categories and option to add new categories.  Add new categories by filling out the fields, description optional, but helpful.

Important – You will need to edit and remove the Uncategorized category.  This can be done by simply renaming Uncategorized to a category for your site. 

Categories from Post Editor – New categories can be added and assigned from the Post Editor, while you are creating a post, in the Categories Module found on the right side of post editor.

Tags IN WORDPRESS

Tags help to group related posts together and to quickly show readers what a post is about.  Tags make it easer to find your content.  Tags are similar categories, but they are more specific.

Adding tags from the Dashboard – Tags can be added and managed from the Dashboard.  Go to the Dashboard, then Posts and Tags, and you can add or change tags as needed.
